when i see an ant crawling on my floor, i bring it outside. i don't kill it because i realize that it is living its only life and why would i end it when i don't have to? i put it outside and let it do its thing.
the same applies to animals. i don't need to eat meat to survive. a cow does not need to suffer and die for me. just because i happen to be part of a very dominant species on earth (humans), it does not mean i have to go around abusing my power. just because i can kill ants easily does not mean i should.
i believe who an animal is, is the result of their active brain. who i am right now is my brain functioning. when my body cannot keep my brain going, i will die. gone forever, never to be here again. i have no soul that occupies my body. no soul will leave my body and go to heaven or some fake place when i die.
for the record, when i said my body keeps my brain alive, the brain is part of the body, also. my brain needs to work properly for the rest of my body to function right. when my body functions right, including my brain, my active brain is who i am.

If you eat hamburger then a very high percentage of that meat is from animals who have already lived out most of their life and are within a year or two of dying from age. If they are killed a year or two early and they provide food for someone or die naturally (slowly, pitifully, and painfully) and or rendered for commercial uses other than food what is the difference? This accounts for nearly 40% of all slaughter. Steaks, roasts, etc. come from animals that are younger but you can skip them and still eat meat without causing early slaughter. As you say "this is reality".

Wait a minute. So are you saying that if you had a brain transplant you would transfer your identity into another body. In other words, if you could keep your brain functioning and you were 80 years old and had it transplanted to the body of a 21 year old then you would become that 21 year old? what i'm saying is...
IF it were possible to take your brain, keep it alive, and put it in michael jackson's body, you would be you inside michael jackson's body.
similarly, if i could regrow a body for myself when i'm 90, if you took my brain and could keep it going while transplanting it into the new body, i would be in the new body.
when you speak of eternal life, you're assuming the brain does not get old. but that is not the case. you could only have eternal life and replace your body as long as your brain is still ok. there would need to be a way of fixing brain problems without changing the information it holds.
you are your active brain, i don't care if you believe it or not.
