I think you better study the Muslim credo a little more closely. The Muslim faith's whole idea is to convert the world to Islam. OBM and pals aren't so concerned with that particular aspect.

Equally disgusting tactics? Is it your view that if we abandoned whatever the "disgusting tactics" are that you claim and instead choose to rig a 767 with remote control and fly it into the center of Baghdad's civilian population, that this would be acceptable?

For the oil? So we defeat Baghdad, what do you expect the US to do under this oil theory? Occupy the country and simply steal all the production and ship it directly home? It would have been easier to just take over Kuwait in '91.

Granted the 767 would shock and terrorize, but the thousands of tons of explosives we are likely drop/guide into Baghdad as well as other sites laden with so called industrial and infrastructure targets are likely to kill, mame and destroy on a level which makes 9/11 seem like a pin prick. We have killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians directly or indirectly since 91 including through barely reported weekly bombings.

I will agree with Candle et. al. -- The United States is, in my opinion, guilty of many atrocities that most Americans don't know about. Anyone who takes a good America History class with a competent professor will touch base on just how ass-backwards our history REALLY is. I'll touch base on a few points and then leave it alone for fear of sounding anti-American when in actuality I love this country.

Oh, where should I begin?

Guatemala
In 1954, our country assisted in overthrowing a legally elected government. The government at the time was actually benevolent, yet for years there were unspeakable actions taken against the people.

The government at the time wanted to use some unused land of the fruit company for social purposes. Well, of course the United Fruit Company was well connected to the Eisenhower administration at the time. So the Guatemala government, led by Arbenz, was overthrown and was the beginning of the end for many Guatemala people.

We basically destroyed a government so that a banana company could thrive here in the United States.

Greece in the late 40's and early 50's
It is a little known fact that the United States, in its great fear of communism, actually supported the far-right wing of Greece (which was filled with Pro-Nazis politicians) during the small civil-war Greece was experiencing at the time. The United States had to make sure it suppressed any socialist party making an uprising while it was still in its infancy.

Chile 1964 to 1973
Salvador Allende wins a free election and his party, during the three years he was in power, significantly increased its share of the vote. However, in 1973, the United States saw that it would be unable to defeat Allende's socialist party in elections -- so the only natural recourse was a coup. The CIA had been preparing the military for three years to make them hostile to the government. This also helped lead to economic and social chaos, which benefited their (our) plot.

Then you have the story of Noriega being on the payroll of the CIA under Bush Sr. when he started supporting the Sandinistas. The bombing of Panama was, in my humble opinion, another example of a US war crime.

Unfortunately, our own media is organized and structured to censor anyone who dares write about these and countless other American atrocities. It is a shame because the long list of reasons why the Arabs hate us is actually quite interesting and deep. In fact, at one point in our history, the arabs actually loved us and looked upon us as the "perfect Imperialistic state." However, not many people understand why the arabs are so pissed off at us.

I am not defending their actions because two wrongs do not make a right. However, the average American's ignorance about the crimes of his own country are appalling. The list runs very deep and some of them make me shake my head is disbelief.

We need to get our troops off their soil -- imagine if Russian troops were on our soil in Idaho to protect their supply of potatoes. That's a poor example that doesn't go too deeply into the dynamics of the situation, but I could clearly give you a long list of how we've gotten ourselves into this situation with the arabs.
