Don't you think this approach should be modified according to the virility and damage created by the pathogen? When it comes to Covid-19, I think waiting for immunity through prior infection is a very bad idea if you have vaccination as an alternative. There are no vaccines available where it has been determined that vaccination is inferior to immunity through infection. In every case, without exception, it has been determined by expert, professional study groups that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. That's a primary consideration for approval of a vaccine. Exposure risk is one of the considerations in deciding, in each instance, whether to vaccinate or not. And the latter risk can be relative to a population as well as to an individual. It doesn't seem to me to be a good idea to substitute your own judgement for the collective judgement of experts, even though, in the U.S., you are free to do that. However you may not be allowed to do certain things that would put others at risk, if you are not vaccinated, and that makes perfect sense as well.
