Maintaining optimal mental state

In this business, being a loner is not a disadvantage, in fact it maybe an advantage.

A successful trader often is compulsive/obsessive about trading, would be very happy to spend 24/7 thinking about charts/trades or everything associate with winning methodology.
Agree with your post.

Don't you think "Thinking" about trading 24/7 could melt your brain out?
Yes, quite often it feels that way, especially trying to understand the math, as in option pricing, as in statistical arbitrage as in.... It is more work than doing two day jobs. :(

Most of us are sailing in the same boat.
Sir, sounds like you guys are in a sailboat with wind in your sails, sailing to Monte Carlo.

I am now in a tiny rowboat, rowing like mad trying to survive this tsunami of a market meltdown. :banghead:

...I'm a stay-at-home father who loves to build and refine systems to make executing my responsibilities efficient. One example of an efficient system that I've built is around meals. In a matter of about three hours, I update and track my grocery budget, take an inventory of what I currently have, plan my meals for 1 to 2 weeks, buy my groceries, and put them away inside my house in its proper place.

My problem that I have is not in building and refining systems but it is maintaining an optimal state for consistently executing my system.

After taking further examination of my thought processes this morning, I've been saying to myself, “this is overwhelming” or “I hate doing this”.

My main opportunity for change is that I've been thinking negatively without even realizing that I'm doing it. I can't afford to have this negative mental state crossover into my trading.

Thanks!

Hi ronnym789,

I'm curious is the quarantine due to the Pandemic impacted you as a stay at home father ?

For example, has having you kids home and possibly your spouse home all the time impacted routine as a stay at home father and has it impacted your trading or space to allow you continuing thinking as a trader ?

One of the reasons why I ask because you stopped visiting Elitetrader.com within days after the quarantine (stay at home).

It is necessary to switch to positive points and move from negative to positive.
Totally. If we want to get better at it, we surely need to know how to become positive from negative. Even though its hard sometimes.
