Fauci on mask usage: Vaccinated people can still 'inadvertently infect' others

Anthony Fauci warned Sunday that vaccinated Americans could still be infected with COVID-19 and pass the virus on to others "inadvertently," thereby necessitating mask usage until more Americans receive the vaccine or the level of confirmed infections significantly drops.

Speaking with NBC's Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press," Fauci explained that receiving the vaccine "dramatically" diminishes a person's risk of carrying an infection, but does not eliminate it, adding that vaccinated Americans could experience asymptomatic infections.

"[W]hat happens is that you might get infected and get absolutely no symptoms, not know you're infected, and then inadvertently go into a situation with vulnerable people. And if you don't have a mask, you might inadvertently infect them," he said, adding that there was a "small risk" of such a situation occurring.

"[W]hen you get vaccinated you are clearly diminishing dramatically your risk of getting infected. That's one of the things we've got to make sure everybody understands. You dramatically diminish it," Fauci added.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines currently recommend that vaccinated Americans continue wearing masks in public, though the agency says that vaccinated people congregating exclusively with others who have received the vaccine can do so safely without a mask. Attending "medium or large gatherings" with or without a mask is also still not recommended.

"We’re still learning how vaccines will affect the spread of COVID-19. After you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you should keep taking precautions—like wearing a mask, staying 6 feet apart from others, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces—in public places until we know more," the CDC said in the guidelines.

where is the documented spread outdoor?
The only case I have seen supposedly happened in China, supposed and it was over a year ago.

you are just up to your fear mongering again.
there was no spread during the demonsrtations
no spread at lake of the ozarks...

you just make shit up.

Yeah... but what are you going to do about crowds on the beaches, crowds at protests, crowds at large outdoor events such as sports, Nascar, etc. The actual rule in North Carolina and most states is that you should wear a mask outdoors when you cannot be socially distanced. So not wearing a mask while walking in a non-crowded park would be fine. Not wearing a mask when attending a crowded demonstration is not OK.

Except for the many studies showing COVDI-19 is easily transmittable outdoors. All of this is easily found with a Google search that provides over a million results showing COVID-19 being transmitted outdoors.

While transmission of COVID-19 indoors is much more likely than outdoors (somewhere in the 10x to 20X range according to studies) -- there are many proven cases of COVID-19 being transmitted outdoors -- especially in situations with crowds and no social distancing.

but how did viruses exist for billions of years before the advent of indoors?

The guy sounds like a fucking shill for 3M at this point.

That quote above is taken verbatim from his spiel a year ago. So what was the point of the Vaccine in the first place, if forever and ever we will have to take all the precautions we did before there was a vaccine?

That is what Jim Jordan was so pissed off about. Fauci needs to shut his fucking piehole and get back to finding a vaccine for HIV.

The point is to protect you from getting sick; or from getting as sick as you would get without taking the vaccine.

And it's not for 'forever and ever.' It's until everyone has had a chance to also get vaxxed.

Can't believe that needed to be explained.

There is going to come a time when all in this country who want to be vaxxed, will be. It will probably land at 70ish percent.

And Fauci is going to say, "Welp folks, we still have 30% of the country unvaccinated, so we are not at herd immunity. For their safety, I recommend we all continue to wear our masks and maintain social distancing until we can educate them as why the vaccine is a must have. We must do this to protect THEM."

Mark it, dude.
