Are you aware how many cases of polio there were in the wild before the vaccine was available. A mere 157 cases that are vaccine associated (out of millions of children being vaccinated) seems like an acceptable risk in regards to this vaccine campaign. And they are associated with using an attenuated live virus vaccine in these efforts -- and in many ways suggest a quality control problem in manufacturing in these third world regions -- which is noted in the articles as efforts to stopping vaccine-derived cases. Yet it appears that all the cases of vaccine-derived polio did not have long term effects and the children recovered; this cannot be said for the polio cases in the wild.
