Police officers should be held to the absolute possible highest standard of conduct. This officer should lose his pension, benefits, ability to own firearms, vote, and spend 10 years in a 9x9 box for animal cruelty. Reparations should be paid to the family from his bank account. Ideally, the damages would bankrupt him and his family.

The police union will protect them. Police dogs are treated as humans (this is assault on an officer even though the K9 instigated). Instead of the police dog being put down in kind he too will be getting a promotion.

Mmm, well, I don't know about all that. I just think excessive force was used on the pet dog, who was clearly no threat to the K9 officer, and the human officer, since they were separated by a fence?
