I have met some fantastic Venezuelans where I live in Florida. I had an interesting chat one night at a gig with the friend of the bass player who was actually part of the opposition in Venezuela and was forced into hiding and barely escaped the country. For years I have spoken with Venezuelans who have nothing but disgust for the Chavez and now Maduro regimes. As to the people currently in country, I am sure they will think twice about future promises of a socialist utopia.

Agreed. The Venezuelan bass player at the gig that night had never played with me and the guitar player. The guitar player would just start playing and the bass player nailed every song! He only asked one time about the key of a particular song. After the gig we were chatting and he had never played half of the songs. Amazing talent! And his friend who was part of the opposition was a stunningly beautiful woman. According to her story, she took part in a hunger strike to protest for some political prisoners and a few weeks later she woke up to see her and 12 other peoples mug shots shown on National TV as most wanted fugitives. She was in hiding for a few months and forged her passport to escape. Her story was crazy but believable.
The reason the interim president is being recognized by many nations is that the Venezuelan constitution specifically obligates the National Assembly (currently the only folks in Venezuela democratically elected) to appoint an interim President and seize control of govt institutions if the executive uses violence against citizens (check) or usurps executive power without the consent of the people (check). Both of these conditions have clearly been met and so the National Assembly did what it is chartered to do and what it is empowered to do by the constitution.
Additionally President Trump indicated today that we will intervene militarily if Maduro manifests violence against the protestors. One Hellfire missile ($72k) would likely do the job.
Totally. The US government is shut down and that would distract the base from the fact that their POTUS is destroying their livelihoods.
This is an idiot statement, so let's not hold him up as the poster for the Democrats when anyone with a brain knows the real economic situation in Venezuela.
This is not even socialism, it is a dictatorship who steals money and only protects his rich friends. The rest of the country is mostly poor. No idea why people would call this a socialist state when it is exactly the same as any other dictatorship in past history.

The promise of "free shit, wealth redistribution and equality"... is not only an easy, chicken-shit political platform... it's also apparently irresistible to the hoi polloi. America's Founders knew, but their wisdom has been eroded by greed and lust for power.
(Hope America is watching, but I doubt that too. AOC is dumb as a box of rocks and is gathering political support every day. Sad.)
