This is something I have long advocated.
I don't know why the "progressives" don't embrace it. If they could get rid of a handful of red states, they would have super majorities in congress and a lock on the White House. They could do anythng they wanted, just like in California.
They are always sympathetic to liberation movements in other countries, no matter how disastrous the consequences are for America or its allies. Why aren't they willing to eat their own cooking?
There would be other beneftis to progressives. A smaller US would be less likely or able to throw its weight around in world affairs, thus achieving one of the left's longheld goals. Since most of the pressure for a big military budget comes from red states, they could also cut the Defense budget drastically and no one would complain. Another goal checked off.
And since our resident lefties insist the red states are a financial burden, the slimmed down US would be in a stronger financial position.
Yet they stubbornly oppose giving us our freedom. Maybe we need to get an international boycott started. That worked in South Africa.
