Losing Execution Priority using IB TWS

Quote from ronblack:

Someone else also asked you the same question and you did not answer. Why do you place both buy and sell orders for the same stock at the same time?

Can you give a specific example?

Uhhh... Is this a trick question...

Because I can!!! :D

This is the someone else also asked you the same question and you did not answer. It was not a trick question. Are you attempting some type of arb-trade??? Are you trying to use IB to scalp??? Its not obvious to everyone...

Pardon the twisted humor. I just couldn't resist.

I'm definitely not arbing.

I trade small swings in low liquidity stocks. My hold time varies from less than a minute to several weeks depending upon my trading strategy for that security, market conditions, trading volume, and how many times I get bumped back in execution priority.

I'm trying to buy at the same time that I am selling out of my portfolio because I want to increase my trade volume in these lean markets. I have NOT been placing sell orders for more shares than I already own because I am uncomfortable with the potentially long exposure times.

I hope that answer is more to your liking. Personally, I liked my first answer. :D
