However if these Republicans really cared about the state's finances and education system, they would be pushing for immigration enforcement
Of course, if all the companies had not relocated to North Carolina over the past 50 years providing high-paying jobs -- then the state would have remained a rural, non-educated, dismal, back-water pigsty that would make poverty-stricken Applachia appear to be a paradise comparatively. Fortunately we had a generation of politicians in North Carolina who believed that bring jobs and companies to our state was important for the long term prosperity of the entire population.
The effort failed because Charlotte City Council reneged on complete reversal of city ordinance.
You are incorrect.
Go read the press, the Charlotte council met yesterday to ensure every portion of the ordinance was undone. They even requested that the state assembly instruct them on anything further needed to be fixed.
The failure to repeal HB2 squarely rests on the state assembly Republicans not on the Charlotte city council.

Republicans said they had proposed a clean swap: Charlotte would back down from the changes it made to its anti-discrimination ordinance in February, including new protections on the basis of gender identity, and the General Assembly would repeal H.B. 2.
But when Charlotte leaders met on Monday, they did not approve an absolute repeal of the ordinance they passed in February. Instead, to the ire of Republicans in state government, they left in certain provisions, including a part of the ordinance that empowered Charlotte’s community relations committee to “approve or disapprove plans to reduce or eliminate discrimination” with respect to familial status, gender expression, gender identity, marital status and sexual orientation. Charlotte officials met in an emergency session on Wednesday, before the legislature convened, to complete the repeal.
Charlotte is officially known as the "Queen City."
You can't make this shit up.
