Fear, anger, frustration and anxiety mess with your head. There are hundreds of ways to trade, but as long as you are a discretionary trader you must learn to deal with your emotions (not repress).
If you are not familiar with trading psychology, one good trade and the playbook by mike bellafiore and the daily trading coach by brett steenbarger.
Improving strategy has done nothing for my game, because my psychology has been and still is sub optimal. It is my number one area for improvement. Only, then will developments in strategy yield results, because otherwise emotions will cloud your judgement and interfere with execution.
The more these emotions are present, the more it implies that the trade is being taken away from a set plan. Good trades are taken based on sound statistical analysis, which have a definite outcome. The outcome is not always that of success, but it does have a probability that sits on ones side.
Regardless of what the outcome is, trade management has to be carried out for whichever side the trade tips to. In that case, it is just a task that is to be taken care of and therefore emotion should be at a minimal.
All good reading material.
Very nicely put. Strategy and psychology, BOTH, need to be utilized well to make it comfortable.
The major part of psychology comes in reading what the market participants are doing, and to a smaller extent of ones own psychology.
IMHO.
