I don't like waiting for the computer to catch up to my thoughts so I guess I'm mentally HFT. Also have 3TB of SSDs.
I use excel/VBA to do analysis. One core is plenty since excel is single thread. I do need faster clock speed. What is the fastest PC/Mac computer I can buy?
I am impressed. My old MacBook runs circles around my brain.
Excel formulas are parallelized for years, so you're probably making use of it without even knowing. In this case, multiple cores might be better for you if you find your calculations slow.
If what you've got is good enough then why change? For me, I like moving at the speed of my thoughts rather than mulling over things endlessly so a fast computer is important.
I just bought 2 more of these Dell T5810s* as described in this thread.
