Where did you get that discount code? Dell usually offers such a discount only on specific models during a promotion... not generally, "all desktops".
Also, I checked Dell Outlet and couldn't find any T5400s available. They are not only one generation back, they are also a different breed of cat. If someone is considering buying one, should evaluate carefully.

I saw a T7400 - quad xeon 3GH with 16gig RAM few days ago for $740 with a coupon it was a killer deal... keep patience they come and go ...so keep an eye.
5400/7400 have massive scalability with multi processor and multi pci express slots... and if u can get 16 gig ECC ram .. boy o boy.. u r set for next few yrs...

Ahhh.... these are from Dell Financial Services... for the most part, off-lease returns... have likely been used for 3 years. Not at all the same as from Dell Outlet.
I have few of them, they are as good as new, most cases they replace parts/ refurbish them - tested and come with the same 90 day warranty.
what i love is that they have ECC rams and 15K scsii raid hard drives on raid cards... with little or no cosmetic damage.
I never had to replace a part or return one..may be its just my luck.

Want to use this computer for charting ONLY...(Have 4 24"), and will swap the graphics card from my old Precision 690 to the new XPS 8300. Card is a Nvidia Quadro NVS 440.
The XPS 8300's power is 460 W...
My question is: Is 460 W enough to run 4 monitors? (Full of charts/indicators etc. etc.). The price is right, at $750 bucks...
The benchmark of the XPS 8300's CPU is a lot higher than the T3500 you mention above, but I must admit that the Precision line has been superb, for me (The old 690 is my 3rd, one I bought new, the other two were used...bought from eBay...never had one issue)...
I also have one XPS 8100 (1st gen i7), running 2 24" monitors, used for my broker only, one year old...never an issue, quiet, and lots of CPU power, it just sits there...

1. The computer's video power requirements are for the video card... and that's what, 20-30W? Monitors have their own power supply.
2. Dell's XPS is more of a gamer machine... more powerful CPU, but can be questionable for multi-video card. The XPS 8300 apparently has a P67 chipset. So long as your OS supports the 440 (it's getting a bit long in the tooth), and the 8300 will run the quad video card (not assured... I've seen some not run quad cards from their only x16 slot), you should be good to go for 4 monitors.
I was going to suggest that. Same OS on the 8100 as the 8300? If the 440 doesn't work, I have another suggestion for you which I've used on a machine which would not run a quad port video card from its x16.
