Think I get it. Bloomberg provide all live-feeds I may need, and is able to route orders to the exchange. But in order to make orders I need a clearing firm. However, I can get as much live-data I need without a clearing firm.

Bob Morse is spot on. For much of Europe - $25 million is for a BD. For investors, Eurex as an example has it at $100 million with no carve out for individual investors. When you have that size you can get Bloomberg as part of your execution package with your broker/bank. Numbers are vastly different if you are not US based and Asian markets are all over the place in terms of their requirements.
