Not true actually. The media now is not just CBS, ABC, and NBC. Hasn't been for a long time actually.

In any case, rallies that turn violent generally have younger people at the core of the violence.

The old farts at a teagagger rally are more concerned with a good night's sleep, popping some little blue pill to service the wife, and some gentle laxative...

In either case, the rallies are mostly attended by people who can afford to take time off of work, or are not working.

You have to do something about your black and white thinking, all or nothing and generalization fallacies Mav.

It would be a no brainer in my book, there was not a single incident of Tea Party violence caused by them at one of their rallies, and there was no destruction either.

Who do you expect to be the most scared and angry today (and I speak "worldwide"), the people who own only their own labor and with nowhere to sell it, or those who own capital with a world to spend it in? (I needn't even mention the legit gripes the environmentalists have.) To the extent that the left represent labor, and that is admittedly a big "if", it is they you would expect to out on the street today, during this crisis. You will never see the rich on the street. You don't see any rightwingers on the streets of the ME's cities today, do you... why? As for the tea party, they're not this kind of angry because they don't even understand which side they're on. They think the plight of the working man today is because of "taxes" and big government. (They'd be right if they understood how much the rich ARE government--they don't get that, yet.)

Edit: my error, you do see rightwingers out on the streets of the ME today--they are shooting at the protestors who are... not government, not rich... they are working people (well, wannabes).

I'm not finger pointing, but you are kind of illustrating our point. You would be quick to condemn violence directed at minorities or an abortion clinic, but you are trying to justify a pre-planned riot by a bunch of leftwing thugs in London.

Saying that the working man is getting screwed doesn't cut it either. I'll wager most of these thugs were students or dropouts living off the dole. Those were not coal miners or stevedores trying to throw a table through the Ritz's front window or taking over Fortnum's. These were spoiled brats, raised with a sense of entitlement to the fruits of others' labor and spouting the kind of leftwing drivel that can only be learned at our top universities.

Of course, in increasingly unliveable Britain, if someone had tried to defend their property against this onslaught, they would have ended up facing far more serious charges than the coddled marxists, who will all be given a hot meal and sent home.

It's commonplace to characterize protestors as "spoiled brats", as "other", and delegitimize them, but we're living in a world where millions are taking to the streets, where governments are falling. Food prices are at record highs even as employment is low. I don't deny the presence of spoiled brats, but imho they have far less traction when the world is "working".

Let me just say that "left" or "right", sheeple can get violent when they have a proper scapegoat and feel they have very little if anything to lose. It just takes someone or something to light the match.

Economics are going to drive this bus regardless of how much kicking and screaming occurs. This should really be viewed as a positive thing by any self respecting libertarian and I think it is plain for all to see that federal/central governments around the world have become overbearing and fiscally irresponsible on a historic level.

Socialism has lost, we're just in the rage stage of coping right now. Mercantilism, for better / for worse, is the current system du jour.

UK towns and cities are no more unlivable than any US town or city, I don't know how long you spend or have spent in the UK but its not like the DailyM*il paints it.

I haven't been to the UK since 91' but even then there seem to be a large number of middle east foreigners. I can only imagine what it's like today. I did enjoy meeting the native Brits though and of course the whole place is steeped in history which I really enjoy. I gotta be honest with you though, the weather there sucks.

I said it was getting increasingly unliveable. Most americans would be shocked at the low standard of living in the UK. I understand there are plusses of course, but they call it Londonistan for a reason. Suffocating political correctness, crime, high taxes, sky-high cost of living and a general sense of too many people in too small a place have ruined what was once a great place to live.

As for the guy who shot a violent burglar with an air rifle, the striking part is that the police actually considered charging him and the whole episode was thought to warrant mention in a major newspaper due to the novelty. There was a similar case a few years back of an elderly farmer in the midlands I believe who shot some punks who had repeatedly broken into his farmhouse. He got a stiff jail term. Apparenty you're meant to serve them tea.
