I have been in China for a (failed) vacation since early January and I can see the businesses reopening as we speak.
The situation is improving outside Hubei and the number of new cases per day as dropped to single digits in many provinces.
The one party here doesn’t f*ck around. They shut the neighborhoods down and the city guards will actually smack anybody without a mask wondering in public.
My hometown is Toronto, Canada but I feel safer here in China from the virus.

I think you miss a big point here: of course does China work to the advantage of its own citizens. The problem is that China with its lies and cheating disadvantages all the other global players that try to compete on an equal footing. As a hight tech chip company outside of China you constantly had your IP stolen by Chinese players and China protected those Chinese players. When a WTO agreement was reached all other players at the table delivered as promised but China lied its ass off and never opened its country to financial services as promised more than a decade ago. I can run down a list of 20 times or more items where China continuously cheats and lies. It disadvantages all other players and benefits China. It took Japan and Germany 4 decades to rise again to the top. It took China less than half that time. Are chinese twice as smart and hard working than all others or did they play an unfair and corrupt game?

As a Chinese-Canadian who came to the country at age 10 (I am 30 now), I have seen the countries from both side, and to be honest I rather live/work in a big city in China than Toronto right now.

I have seen tremendous changes in China, from the first KFC being opened in my home city Hefei in 1998 to big western style shopping malls in every section of a major city.
China went from having only junky diesel buses in the 90s to elaborate reliable subway system with cell service and TV screens.
Compare that to Toronto, the same worn out subway trains since 80s. Still no cell service in the subway, no TV screens, no modernization. Breaks down on a weekly basis during rush hours. No new highways, same old traffic jam problems, zero improvement.

I am just not seeing the advantage of living the day to day life in a city like Toronto anymore. The quality of life here have remained stagnant or even regressed. The media is constantly bombing us with frightening news about China. Truthfully, they are mostly bunch of crap. If you live your life like an average citizen(not a criminal), none of these "restrictions" will affect you. Just get a VPN to access western websites.

Anyways, I think the point is really we should focus on how to improve our countries(Canada and US) and solve the actual problems. Stop wasting time with politics. You might think China's government is lying because your media told you to be incredulous, even though there are no solid evidence.
People in China don't waste time debating politics, they have a job to do and they break their back to get it done. The Chinese government runs their country like the US military commands its army, the people trust their government and are therefore obedient and highly efficient.

I am not going to catch the virus in the first place. Like I said, everyone is scared and the city is dead. No chance of it spreading. The people who actually died from it are mostly senior people. Most people get over it like a bad case of flu.

... Allegiance lies. Not lays. And can we for once not always make it about a competition between the US and everyone else? It's a sign of weakness and lack of confidence when one always has to put others into some buckets, the for or against bucket. This is not the point. This is all about global trade, not whether the US or China wins or loses. We can all benefit and grow and advance when the game is not rigged. I can list millions of issues where the US plays an unfair and corrupt game in world politics, arms trades, invasions, and and and. That is not the point. The point is on issues and the critique of the handler. I don't get it when some pull out their bazooka and mix up issues when the issue is on a specific topic.

Never heard of Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Holland, Australia, New Zealand? Nothing that America can learn from those countries? That is perhaps why the average American only has less than 400 bucks to their bank account and can't afford a car repair bill and a medical emergency. Nothing wrong in your eyes with that sad state of affairs?

I haven't heard anyone from the WHO praise anyone except China...you know, the people who cement families into their homes, come back a week later to find them all rotting, and then don't count them towards their death totals for the pandemic they created...

The reason for my beef with China isn't about their "Libtard" policies. I can care less about that. What I want is the truth, which Chinese government is always twisting to their opportunistic ends. That's what I'm bitching about. It's not about politics.
