Recently I was reading a history text that covered the former Soviet bloc nations. One item that stood out was their method of dealing with lazy shiftless bums. Those able-bodied adults who refused to do work were locked up as Social Parasites. The typical term was 2 years of hard labor.
With the growing number of non-working parasites in the U.S. living off the backs of the taxpayers, maybe it is time to consider a similar set of laws to put the lazy to work.
Don't think this would happen in a western nation? Well you are wrong. For decades most U.S. states had vagrancy laws, which are effectively the same thing as the social parasite laws in the old Soviet bloc. The usual sentence for vagrancy in the U.S. was 90 days of hard labor. These laws are still on the books, but not currently enforced. Maybe it is time to re-write them to deal with able-bodied adults that refuse to work while living off of social benefits. Certainly after a few spells of hard labor, the bums would take the hint and get permanently employed.
