Man fatally shot at crowded Florida mall

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - A gunman fatally shot a man in a fight at a crowded mall on Sunday, then sent hundreds of Christmas shoppers running for cover as he fired at police chasing him, authorities said. Two men were in custory.

SWAT team members arrested Jesse Ceaser after he barricaded himself in a department store at the Boynton Beach Mall, north of Miami, Police Lt. Jeffrey Katz said.

Ceaser, 21, of Lake Worth, was charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.

Fregens Daniel, 20, of Boynton Beach, also was arrested and was charged with acting as principal accessory in the case, Katz said. Bond has not yet been set for Ceaser and Daniel.

In North Carolina, a man was charged with attempted murder Sunday after a shooting a day earlier at a Greensboro mall packed with shoppers. One man was critically wounded by gunfire shortly before the Four Seasons Town Centre closed Saturday.

It was the second shooting of the weekend at a North Carolina mall.

That's so sad, really. I can't imagine the anguish, devastation, loss, etc. that their families must be feeling today. I drove to visit my Mom in Southern CO by Durango for Christmas, and I had an incident of road rage on the way here where I had to call 911 on the freak. My wife had to remind me it's not worth escalating the situation on my side. She's very smart and I came to my senses. Please let's all have a joyous and safe holiday season.

I keep saying it's much to easy to get a gun in this country, and I own one myself. Stories like these remind of why I feel we need much stricter gun control.

A far cry indeed. Washington Avenue is a two mile strip of shops, restaurants and small businesses not unlike what one would see in any other affluent, up tempo city. In a weird way Miami Beach reminds me of a flatter, tropical San Francisco. It's unfortunate that people think MB is only SoBe and they also think SoBe is only Ocean Drive.

I live and trade on Miami Beach... I have been here for over
years... i was single here and now am married with a daughter (1.5 years old) and I can honeslty say i LOVE IT here....both as a single guy and married family guy (although. single on miami beach is UNBELIEVABLE)

Yes I agree the people are morons...no question about that, but the variety of people, the beach/weather, the convenience of everything close and the tax benefits are definately appreciated.
plus you save a lot of coin not having to buy winter clothes ..haha

I moved from NYC and would NEVER move back..esp now that im married with a kid (but i do visit every year) as its very convenient to walk around with the kid with good weather

if you are attempting to LIVE LARGE in miami and are a good enough trader to do so....i would say spend at least a winter and trade in miami and see if you like it...esp if u single

if your married and enjoy the NYC llifestlye of walking around , cafes, and yes some culture ( the new Carnival center just opened and now we have Theater, Ballet, art basel , etc) give it a try..its not NYC....but the weather sure beats NYC (ever heard of SEASONAL DEPRESSION) and there is enough cultural events that will keep you busy.


I Have family in Cali and can honestly say Miami is WAY more diverse and has that East Coast/ NY Hustler Mentality that i just didnt feel out in LA LA land ...not to say Cali is not great.....if my place gets blown out by a hurricane though...i'd probably move to Phoenix (got some family there also and MUCH MUCH cheaper than LA in terms of bang for your housing buck...but family is impt reason)

OH..if moving to Miami...real estate is a RIP OFF...but renting is very affordable...and when u factor in insurnace, taxes, and maintance....renting is VERY VERY CHEAP

for those Knocking Miami Beach...if you never lived here...please

South florida in General....its hit or miss.....its very cookie cutter...or as some say... Heaven's Waiting room....
and some of the previous post are right about everything not Miami
but if you gonna move to S. Fla...its Miami Beach or Nothing in my opinion

(i'll take that back...coral gable, grove, aventura are nice also if you have a family ..but the Beach is the best!!!)

Thats why people pay up to live in "boring" city of Boca Raton.

Boynton Beach and large parts of Delray Beach,West Palm and Fort Lauderdale are some of the worst in South Florida.

the relative high insurance rates and taxes are still a bargain if one makes decent $$$ and pays no state income tax in FL.

Same income in Cali and FL, CA state income taxes to be paid cover most of the expenses on a 750k property in FL, on top of that real estate in FL is still way way cheaper than CA.

I live in Ft.Lauderdale. Most of Broward/Palm Beach has a strip of black folks living along the railroad tracks that straddle Dixie Hwy. Lauderdale has a decent sized black population (Broward is 24% black, many of those Blacks are Haitian/Jamaican). Clearly those demographics enhance our crime statistics.

That being said, east of US1 (anywhere in SoFla) there's little serious/violent crime. The last murder that I can recall east of the ICW up here was in the late 90's. Conversely, the last murder off west Sunrise Blvd. was probably yesterday.

Anywhere near the ocean in any area of Florida, one will enjoy an tropical/urban life without intrinsic seediness. The kicker though is the random acts like those described by MYDemaray. Even in Boca (true suburban wasteland) some woman is killed in her apartment about once a year. How often does that happen in Stamford CT?

Lived in Lauderdale for fifteen years until five years ago. Your assesment is pretty much correct. I would say, however, that if you were down around the beach bars after midnight, it was not quite as safe as you imply.

To some other poster in this thread that said a democrat wouldn't be comfortable in this state, you've got to be kidding. In south florida, you step one foot out of a white church, and you'll be lucky to run into another republican all day.
