Yeah, if you're looking to punch someone, steal something or murder a person, yeah I wouldn't recommend singapore. But if you're just a regular law abiding citizen, Singapore is a decent place to live in. Clean, not much crime, etc. The only downside to Singapore is that owning a car and condo is quite expensive (because of the weak dollar).
Also, Singapore is a bit too small for my taste and is quite bland and boring.
If the OP has a decent amount of money and make a good living, you can add in the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia and make sure to live in a "richer" neighborhood.
I have lived in Singapore and now reside in the Philippines because my family has a business here. I lived in Chicago and Cleveland from when I was 20 until I was 30. Certainly, if you can't deal with third world country bullshit, stick with Japan, HK or Singapore.
P.S. Word of warning, I have a feeling people in Singapore (mostly Malays and Indians) are against good hygiene because they really really stink.
