Good point. Didn't Van Gogh cut his ear of or something. Yet his works are considered masterpieces.
 
To me, his observations on market sentiment and himself are what make him so fascinating. He was the first with these kind of observations, and most people since are not that frank, in print certainly.

i learned lots from his trading 'rules'.

i learned lots from his lack of discipline.

i learned NOT to live part of my life like him.

you can learn from both good and bad instances...
