Live Now!- Helicopters Spraying Nuclear Reactors With Water

Quote from benwm:

I think there are 11 trucks at ground level each carrying 4 tons of water

reactors 3 and 4 are the priority it seems

choppers are on 40 min shifts so I think the helicopter action will resume around 10:38 Tokyo time
Edit: helicopters dropping 7.5 tonnes each time I think

As mentioned on the news why is the rescue of the facility left up to a proven dishonest company. Why isn't the brain trust of the world working on this problem? I want my US tax dollars spent to contain this problem now. Enough of the dicking around. A local problem can become a global problem very easily.

Gotta say, I'm very impressed with the Japanese people overall. No looting, no fighting in hours long gas lines, no fighting in the half-day food/water lines, no brawls at the packed airport, etc., then you have the selfless bravery of the pilots flying through obvious radiation, and the 50 workers who volunteered. One volunteer was six months from retirement. Amazing!

Conversely, when Katrina hit, looters shot at rescue workers boats hoping to run them off so they could resume stealing...

I think the US would do well to pay closer attention to the way the Japanese people are conducting themselves during the worst disaster to hit them in 1,000 years.

This is really unfortunate. It's like pissing on a fire.

It is nothing more than a publicity/morale boosting stunt to show the people at home and around the world that something is being done.

Shit I hope things are not that desperate but you never know

Yes, its bad when this is all that can be done. I pray it works as from what I understand the winds may shift south in the coming days. If this effort doesn't work, and the winds do shift south, I have major fears for Tokyo. :(

If the report I saw is correct, they are hoping that the water seeps in through cracks in the top of the structure. I don't believe the top has blown off, but that may be wrong. It appears to be pure desperation.

We can go to the moon or put robots on Mars but we can't cool a nuclear plant...

Dropping water out of helicopters? What are we? 1970?

Bring on the ultra high tech army equipment!

Not to mention that when you try to cool something too quickly you can crack all the welds, or alternatively, crack a casting...

Military helicopter pilots flew through bloom of radioactive particles and died soon after.
