Social Distortion is a favorite of mine and I like to try and find unique footage
It was good. That's why I asked.
Scales.
Same can be said of most riffs, progressions, songs.
Which scale may be unknown or unanswered by the listener.
Some scales even have dissonance.

Well absolutely. Of course, its all built on scales.
But just because some cat can rip through some variation of a scale.... yeah he has huge talent in his fingers, but christ almighty, that's about a trillion miles from being a virtuoso.
Tid... you can find a 25 yo in any town in America, dozens actually, that can play EVH's "Eruption" or any other classic riff and it will sound exactly like the original.
Here. Tommy Morello does the same thing.
He uses a trick.. Sounds great. Accentuates the song.
But the genius is in the song itself. The melody... and of course... the words.

Well, lets leave politics out of it. I was just making a point about scales in songs and Morello came to mind as he does it pretty well. Sorry about the Springsteen vid. Lots of "phony Americans" out there though.
As for song writing, performing skills, folks vote with pocket-books.
Coming in at #16, he's bested quite a few biggies. Even Madonna.
