I like to look for tenacious long term trends and then look for stocks that got perhaps too overheated/over-extended.
Then if those same stocks fall 50% AND the long term trend (of the sector) is still up I blindly buy those stocks and add them to my portfolio.
GoldCorp (GG) was a recent good example of this.
This strategy worked very well in the tech boom, basically let everyone else get caught up in the short term rubbish while you don't lose sight on the bigger picture.
