Yeah being a retail trader can be a tough gig but it depends on your personality I guess. I know a guy who has worked "from home" for over a decade now and seems to have a lot going on, but he has an extrovert personality so that probably makes it easier. Then again he lives in a major metro area where there's a lot more happening, not sure how he'd do if he lived in the suburbs.
I know another guy who after losing his job has moved back in with his parents in the suburbs and he hates it, says there's nothing to do and he's bored out of his mind. He's driving the 2 hrs into the city every weekend it seems.
But like I said it depends on what kind of person you are. Remember the scene from 'Office Space' where the guy who hates his job is trying to figure out what to do with his life. Someone tells him to ask himself what would you do if you had enough money to not have to work, what would you do then? And he says "That's the problem, if I had that much money I wouldn't do anything, I'd hang out at home, drink beer, and play videogames." At the end of the day I think most people are more or less like that and if you're one of those then that's what you'll end up doing if you become a trader.
