Libya's second largest city has been captured by rebel units of the Libyan army.

Gaddafi's son says protesters have seized control of military bases and tanks.

Saif al-Islam Gadhafi said during a speech on Libyan state television that he said was unscripted. But if the unrest continues, "forget about democracy, forget about reform ... It will be a fierce civil war."

Further reports suggest the 500,000-strong Tuareg tribe in south Libya has heeded the call from the million-strong Warfala tribe to join the uprising. Protesters in Ghat and Ubary, home to Libyan Tuareg clans are reportedly attacking government buildings and police stations.

The leader of the Al-Zuwayya tribe in eastern Libya threatened on Sunday to cut oil exports to Western countries within 24 hours unless authorities stop what he called the "oppression of protesters".

Libya has the largest oil reserves in Africa and exports 1.5 million barrels a day to EUROPE. 37% of it goes to Italy.

Libya's oil isn't going to effect the US.

the United States has most of it oil coming from Canada, Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico.

Arabs account for a combined 40% or so of US oil imports.

Unless SAUDI's imploded.. the US will be fine.


However, the EU is far more dependent on Arab Oil. Will be interesting to see the EU's reaction if Libya does cut off oil to the west.

Unlike Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen...............countries like Baharian and Libya are pretty rich, like among top 20 in the world..........so what is the unrest in these two nations all about? Is it just the 'revolution flu infectgion' or people are starving and have no jobs.

Why can't these countries go for slow, steady and strong type market and social reforms, just the way China, India, Brazil went through and are enjoying the fruits of patience and persistence after 10-15 years and are still improving.

Masses are fools and are vulnerable to becoming puppets of the real power holders who act behind the scenes.

Chinese enjoying the fruits of patience? I'm not sure I agree with that. Hard to call the vast majority that make almost nothing, live in the most horribly polluted cities in the world, and have no future hope at all; people that are enjoying the fruits of their patience.

In China they just simply shoot you if you protest. Do you know over 10K people a year in China go to dark prisons? This is where the women are freely raped, and men are tortured for the fun of the guards.

I think the only people enjoying the Chinese economy are the few who are on top, the rest are being slave driven into misery.
