It's when people start calling for the firing of individuals from shows, or the closing/banning of businesses, etc. That's when it goes beyond "tolerance" because it is impactful - as you said earlier when you said "as long as it doesn't violate somebody's rights". If Hobby Lobby doesn't want to be boycotted, maybe they shouldn't insist on controlling the birth-control choices of their female employees. If the sponsors of Rush Limbaugh don't want to be boycotted, maybe they should stop supporting some gasbag spouting hate speech. The First Amendment says people can't be jailed for their speech (within bounds; no freedom is completely unlimited). Nowhere does it say private citizens have to suffer hateful ideas in silence.
Btw freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to a microphone and public airwaves. If Rush et al get fired from their talking head jobs, they still have freedom of speech: blogs, books, etc. Most of them are doing that already. Glenn Beck got fired from Fox for saying something unacceptable but he didn't go to jail, he went to the internet.
