Former State Legislator Arrested in Connection to Bomb Threats

Stacie Laughton, the first transgender state legislator in New Hampshire, was arrested this morning by police on charges that she called in a bomb threat to a hospital.
According to NECN, Laughton, who was briefly elected to the New Hampshire state legislature in 2012, reportedly called a Nashua hospital late last February and claimed there was an explosive device in the building.
Authorities later determined that Laughton had made the call, and soon issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of making a false report about explosives.
Laughton soon turned herself in to authorities and was released on bail. In an interview with the Union-Leader, Laughton admitted that she was bipolar and had been off her bipolar medication when she made the calls. “I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, and it was totally out of character for me. I have put a lot behind me, and I never thought I would do this in a million years,” she told the Union-Leader.
Laughton only served a few days as a state legislator in 2012 before it was discovered that she had served four months in prison for credit card fraud prior to her transition, prompting her to offer her resignation.
