The FBI confidential source charged last week for allegedly providing false information about President Biden and his son Hunter Biden implicated Russian intervention, per court documents filed Tuesday.

The big picture: Alexander Smirnov, 43, admitted that "officials associated with Russian intelligence" were involved in passing a story about Hunter Biden, per the government's memorandum in support of his detention.

  • Prosecutors alleged in thefiling that Smirnov told an FBI handler that the Russian Intelligence Service intercepted several cellphone calls placed at a hotel "by prominent U.S. persons the Russian government may use as 'kompromat' in the 2024 election."
  • Smirnov was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Central District of California after beingarrested at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Prosecutors alleged Smirnov falsely told FBI agents in June 2020 that officials with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid the Bidens $5 million each in 2015 or 2016.

Every day the left waits on new indictments... breathlessly posturing that it will be members of the Trump family.

Then the indictments come out and it's some low level guy in New York who lied to the FBI or some for some business person who did something unethical long before Trump took office. In every instance it has nothing to do with Trump and Russia.

Then the left drinks some more radical kool-aid and breathlessly assures us that certainly the indictments of Trumps are coming in the next round.

Rinse and repeat -- this is a weekly cycle.

Russia is already spreading disinformation in advance of the 2024 election, using fake online accounts and bots to damage President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats, according to former U.S. officials and cyber experts. The dissemination of attacks on Biden is part of a continuing effort by Moscow to undercut American military aid to Ukraine and U.S. support for and solidarity with NATO, experts said.
