Legal immigrants to be barred from citizenship

If they use aid, which they pay for in all forms of taxes would deem them ineligible. Gotta start cheating for the upcoming elections.

Under the forthcoming plan, any legal immigrants who have ever used (or whose household contains people who have ever used) children’s health insurance (CHIP), Obamacare, supplemental nutrition assistance, or other social benefits could be denied legal status.

Yes. Could be denied citizenship.

"NBC’s Julia Ainsley has obtained an internal Trump administration document laying out a plan to deny citizenship to legal immigrants. "

Sorry, but I hope you'll forgive me if I wait and see what the real story behind this is.

The policy is a few months old... But I think it was targeting green cards initially.

I see no real reason we should confer US citizenship on any immigrant. Or the offspring of illegal aliens who happen to get on US soil. I would actually argue that offspring of any immigrant or visitor not on a permanent residence visa do not qualify for birth citizenship.

In fact, I would be more amenable to immigration if these two conditions were fulfilled.

I think you're too liberal/accomodating.

America had previously an immigration policy of "merit". (1) Immigrants needed to be vetted and have skills America desires and could benefit from, and (2) you agree to assimilating into "become American"... leaving your prior homeland allegiance* behind. I you don't qualify on these points, then you're not welcome.

All the rest are interlopers and invaders. Should be dealt with accordingly.

* America doesn't need invaders to come here and establish their own "little Mexico" or "little Baghdad".

So you're saying there is a current, active policy in place to bar all legal immigrants from citizenship?

No, they're hinting at barring those who may have used government programs. I was explicit about it in my first post.

So if legal immigrants use aid programs, they could be barred from citizenship? Lot of this depends on a good many things, like whether they indeed paid taxes, etc. But when you bring someone over from another country for immigration, it explicitly asks whether they have financial support from you before accepting them. This isn't a new thing. I remember looking at bringing my mother-in-law over back during GWB.
