what were you before your awakening?
My awakening began after helping gather signatures for a Clean up Hanford (The nuclear reservation in Washington State that processed plutonium for atomic weapons) petition. I finally decided to actually read the proposal. The proposal was really about transferring legal liability and cleanup costs from defense contractors and the Federal Government to Washington State taxpayers. Washington State does not have an income tax which makes them a case study on creative ways on how to extract money from one's citizens. I alerted my connected girlfriend about what the petition and proposed bill said and she referred it to a trusted Washington State University professor. She said he said it was a good cause and we should continue to gather signatures for it. I read the petition again, and realized that we were merely pawns in another's money and power game.
Then came Obama. Early on, I noticed how Obama's path to the US Senate seemed to be cleared for him. There was even a positive Fox News piece on them at the time. This raised a red flag to me. After doing a little research on Obama after his Presidential candidacy announcement, I told my girlfriend and a Democratic Precinct control officer of my concerns with Obama. They both said he was the one in reverent tones, without giving any sort of reasoning. I have tended to have Conservative male friends and Liberal girlfriends. My Conservative friends and I would argue passionately our positions. We would also question each other's intelligence and even gender assignment at birth, much like we see on ET on a daily basis. My main Conversative friend is a scientist and everything he said would ultimately prove to be true and correct, even over some of my closely held beliefs. I started to become more open minded to some of his views and started to more fully incorporate a information vetting process before establishing an opinion on something.
After Obama and his forced healthcare insurance, came Hillary and Trump. Although I have an high opinion of Bill, I saw Hillary as having a chip on her shoulder and did not see her as a go to candidate. Although Trump had his baggage, his calls against political correctness, media bias, and corrupt establishment politicians resonated with me because I had a general feeling of being persecuted in the media for my sex and skin color. This was compounded with Hillary calling 40,000,000 people a "Basket of Deplorables". It came down to with Hillary, a continuation of Obama's "legacy" and with Trump, a spin of the roulette wheel.
Truth be told, the roulette wheel is still spinning.
