Probably in the neighborhood of $70,000 over 7 years as a 'hobbyist' not knowing what I was doing. This was financed with most of the disposable income from my job.
The first 4 months of trading full time cost me about $20,000 experimenting with various strategies (with too much size) before things really started to click. I was living off savings during this time.

Your poll is a bit optimistic.
0-50k
50k-100k
100k-200k
200k+
Thats more like it.

What was your day job?And once you got going how long did it take to make the 90k back??Don't mean to be nosy, just curious...I know you are one of the more consistent traders around here as I check out the daily P/L thread every so often.

The name of the game is survival. You have to stay in the game long enough to 'get it'. At some point a light will go on and you'll be off and running. Most people only want to make the money though and really do not have an appreciation for how easily it is lost and how hard it is to get it back.
