Lawmakers propose guns as solution for sexual assault in college

Taking a page from the National Rifle Association and tapping into the national spotlight on sexual assault on college campuses, lawmakers from Florida to Nevada are introducing legislation to permit the carrying of firearms at universities.

When my father went to a large public university directly after WW2, students were allowed to carry firearms on campus and store them in their dorm rooms. It was very common for students to do so. Pistols required a county/town pistol permit, but long guns had no restrictions.

Many of the students were ex-GIs at the time. Many still shot at the university rifle range regularly and/or were part of ROTC-type of programs while in college.
