Norway Warns of Vaccination Risks for Sick Patients Over 80

Norway said Covid-19 vaccines may be too risky for the very old and terminally ill, the most cautious statement yet from a European health authority as countries assess the real-world side effects of the first shots to gain approval.

Norwegian officials said 23 people had died in the country a short time after receiving their first dose of the vaccine. Of those deaths, 13 have been autopsied, with the results suggesting that common side effects may have contributed to severe reactions in frail, elderly people, according to the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

Yes... and once again all the Russian and Chinese propaganda media outlets calling for the stop of all western mRNA vaccines including Moderna which has nothing to do with the situation in Norway --- is just using this caution note from Norway for their global propaganda purposes. This might be a good time to note that the COVID vaccines from China and Russia were never tested on elderly people.

It should be noted that at this point - a huge number of elderly people over 75 globally have taken Pfizer COVID vaccine without any side effects including my in-laws. So 23 people represent what percentage of people over 75 globally who have taken the Pfizer vaccine?

The Zero Hedge article is pure propaganda straight from the Kremlin.

I think the pinpointed subset of people taking the vaccine, referenced in the article, was over 80, specially frail and terminally ill.

mRNA’s, while they’ve been on the drawing boards for a while are brand new in reality. 2-3 years from now we’ll know much more. And while I understand the need for the quick approach, response to combat the virus, some skepticism and caution is warranted.

Both Johnson and Johnson and AstraZeneca will be out soon.

Trump administration accused of deception in pledging release of vaccine stockpile
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-usa-idUSKBN29K2H4

The governors of several states accused the Trump administration on Friday of deception in pledging to immediately distribute millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses from a stockpile that the U.S. health secretary has since acknowledged does not exist.

Confusion over a vaccine supply windfall that was promised to governors but failed to materialize arose as scattered shortages emerged on the frontlines of the most ambitious and complex immunization campaign in U.S. history, prompting at least one large New York healthcare system to cancel a slew of inoculation appointments.

Just 10.6 million Americans have received a shot since federal regulators last month granted emergency approval to two vaccines, one from Pfizer Inc and BioNTech and a second from Moderna Inc, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.

That tally falls far short of the 20 million vaccinations the Trump administration had promised to administer by the end of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic raged virtually unchecked with ever-increasing record numbers of infections, hospitalizations and deaths.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines each require an initial dose and a booster shot given about three weeks apart.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar had said on Tuesday that the administration would release millions of doses it had been holding in reserve for booster shots in order to help spur a sluggish rollout of first doses to those most in need of the vaccine.

Azar said then that the administration was confident enough in the supply chain to release its stockpile, and urged states to use the additional supply to open inoculations to everyone aged 65 and over.

‘DECEPTION ON A NATIONAL SCALE’

Many states obliged, but on Friday a number of governors said they were dismayed to learn that no stockpile existed.

“Last night I received disturbing news, confirmed to me directly by General (Gustave) Perna of Operation Warp Speed: states will not be receiving increased shipments of vaccines from the national stockpile next week, because there is no federal reserve of doses,” Oregon Governor Kate Brown said on Twitter.

“This is a deception on a national scale,” Brown added, demanding an explanation from the outgoing administration.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that the federal government ran down its vaccine reserve in late December and has no remaining reserves of doses on hand.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, appearing at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for the opening of a mass-inoculation site, said Azar and Vice President Mike Pence had committed on a conference call this week with governors to releasing a vaccine reserve that Newsom said had included some 50 million doses stored in Michigan.

“And then we read, as everybody else, that they have reneged on that, or for whatever reason are unable to deliver on that,” Newsom said.

Brown and Newsom’s comments were echoed by at least eight other governors, most of them fellow Democrats, including Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, who called the situation a “slap in the face.” Colorado Governor Jared Polis said he was “extremely disappointed” that Azar had “lied to” his state.

Azar suggested in an interview with NBC News on Friday that the doses in question had already been allocated to the states.

“We now have enough confidence that our ongoing production will be quality and available to provide the second dose for people,” the HHS secretary said. “So we’re not sitting on a reserve anymore. We’ve made that available to the states to order.”

Pfizer said it has been holding on to second doses at the request of the federal government and anticipated no problems supplying them to Americans.

“Operation Warp Speed has asked us to start shipping second doses only recently. As a result, we have on hand all the second doses of the previous shipments to the U.S.,” a company spokeswoman said in a statement.

RACE AGAINST CONTAGION

The latest stumble in the vaccine campaign came as the number of known U.S. infections of the virus that causes COVID-19 surpassed 23 million, more than 388,000 of which have proven fatal, according to a Reuters tally.

Adding to anxieties over the pace of immunizations, the CDC warned on Friday that a new, highly transmissible variant of the virus sweeping Britain could become the dominant form in the United States by March.

In New York, the country’s most populous city, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city has vaccinated about 300,000 of its more than 8 million residents, but was on course to run dry next week because it was burning through vaccines faster than they were being replenished.

At least one New York City healthcare system, Mount Sinai Hospital, canceled vaccination appointments, and another, NYU Langone Health, suspended new ones amid shortages, officials said.

In Los Angeles, Governor Newsom joined Mayor Eric Garcetti and other officials in launching a mass inoculation site at Dodger Stadium, an operation they said would be the largest in the nation, administering 12,000 shots a day by next week.

The baseball arena, which had been devoted to drive-through diagnostic testing for months, is one of several vaccine “super stations” opening across California, home to 40 million people and a U.S. epicenter of the pandemic in recent weeks.

President-elect Joe Biden, who takes office on Wednesday, said on Friday he would order increased production of syringes and other supplies to accelerate a vaccine rollout that he has called a “dismal failure.”

He has set the goal of immunizing 100 million Americans, about a third of the population, within the first 100 days of his administration.

Coronavirus: Norway raises concern over Pfizer vaccine as 29 elderly people die after receiving shot
Pfizer said it was working with the Norwegian health agency to investigate the deaths.

Norway on Saturday expressed concern about the safety of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine on elderly people with serious underlying medical conditions, after at least 29 of them died within days of receiving the shot, Bloomberg reported.

The vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech was the only one available in Norway until Friday, and “all deaths are thus linked to this vaccine,” the Norwegian Medicines Agency said in a written response to Bloomberg.

“There are 13 deaths that have been assessed, and we are aware of another 16 deaths that are currently being assessed,” the agency added. All the reported deaths relate to “elderly people with serious basic disorders”.

Norway said that most of the people experienced the expected side effects of the vaccine, such as nausea and vomiting, fever, local reactions at the injection site, “and worsening of their underlying condition”.

On Friday, Norwegian Medicines Agency Chief Physician Sigurd Hortemo had said that common reactions to the vaccine, including fever and nausea, “may have contributed to a fatal outcome in some frail patients”.

The findings prompted the Scandinavian country to suggest that the Pfizer vaccine may be too risky for elderly vulnerable patients. “For those with the most severe frailty, even relatively mild vaccine side effects can have serious consequences,” the country said. “For those who have a very short remaining life span anyway, the benefit of the vaccine may be marginal or irrelevant.”

At the same time, Norway’s health agency said the deaths were an expected outcome of the process.

“The Norwegian Medicines Agency has communicated, prior to the vaccination, that when vaccinating the oldest and sickest, it is expected that deaths will occur in a time-related context with vaccination,” it said. “This does not mean that there is a causal link between vaccination and death. We have also, in connection with the reported deaths, conveyed that it is possible that common and known side effects of the vaccines may have been a contributing factor to a serious course or fatal outcome.”

The country, however, adjusted its advisory on who gets the Covid-19 vaccine, leaving it up to each doctor to consider who should be vaccinated, AP reported. “Doctors must now carefully consider who should be vaccinated,” said Steinar Madsen, medical director with Norway’s medical agency. “Those who are very frail and at the very end of life can be vaccinated after an individual assessment.”

The other point that goes along with the points that Norway is making is that even if the very elderly receive a covid vaccine without negative side effects, many will nevertheless die in general but also die of covid. All vaccines require the patient to have at least some level of a functioning immune system, involving t-cells, native immune cells, and memory cells. The vaccine jumpstarts that to product more defenses based on that immune systems ability to do so. With very advanced age or immune deficiency there just is not much to work with. We see this with the flu and pneumonia. There are vaccines for both of those infectious diseases, yet they are the major cause of (or precipitating final even anyway) of deaths in nursing homes.

Norway is or may be weaseling a bit when they pull out the old kneejerk saw about "they should check with their doctor." The question is are you requiring the pharma companies to do the kind of research on specific populations that would provide a basis for your doctor to even have an informed opinion? If not, well, get going. Otherwise you are just passing liability and responsibility to the persons doctor who is just reading one chapter ahead or behind in the book like the rest of us to try to keep up. Same situation in regard to the safety for kids taking the vaccine. Not much or no research has been done on that for most vaccines so just telling the parents to talk to their doctor is pretty lame. What guidance have you provided to doctors and upon what research?

California Halts COVID Vaccinations From Moderna Batch Linked To "Unusually High Number" Of Adverse Reactions

As the suspected death toll attributed to COVID-19 vaccines rises around the world, with dozens already reported in the US and Norway, California health officials have asked health-care providers in the state to immediately stop administering a batch of Moderna COVID-19 jabs after an "unusually high number" of adverse reactions were linked to it, according to RT.

On order of State epidemiologist Dr. Erica S. Pan and the California Department of Public Health, the vaccines should be shelved until a proper investigation can be conducted. The lot in question is Moderna Lot 041L20A.

Pfizer Covid vaccine may stop people transmitting disease to others, new study shows
Scientists knew the vaccine stopped those who had the jab having the most serious symptoms of the virus, but it was unclear if they could still pass it on to others

The Pfizer coronavirus vaccine may stop people passing on the virus to others, according to new research.

Scientists already knew the vaccine stopped those who had the jab having the most serious symptoms of the virus, but it was unclear if they could still pass it on to others.

In a huge boost, an expert in Israel says that once people have both injections they should stop being able to transmit Covid-19.

Professor Gili Regev-Yohai, director of Sheba’s Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit, has released early findings of her research at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, the Jerusalem Post reports.

The lower viral load after having the two-dose vaccine will mean they shed fewer viral particles from their mouth and nose and therefore they are less infectious.

She added that those inoculated are less like to spread it further because they have high level of antibodies.

Research showed people given the Pfizer Covid vaccine have up to 20 times more antibodies than people who have had Covid and recovered.

Professor Regev-Yochay said: "The results of the survey are in line with Pfizer’s experiment and even better than expected.

“I expect that the survey results of the other employees participating will be similar.

"There is certainly reason for optimism.”

Trials of the Pfize jab showed it was 95 per cent effective at stopping people becoming ill with Covid-19 if they get infected, after two doses are given.

Four million people have been given at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Oxford vaccine so far in the UK.
