I had a childhood friend that was showing off that he could eat rocks...he ended up breaking a few teeth when we kids dared him to prove it. :D

Months later, he said dog poop tasted good. We dared him to eat dog poop...he walked away from that bet.

I may have licked some pink quartz.

Interesting, seems its a thing.

"For the uninitiated, pica (pronounced PY-kah) is an appetite for non-food items. This tendency is relatively common in children and adults with autism or other developmental disabilities. They may try to eat all sorts of things. The items I most commonly hear about are paper, soap, pebbles, thread and bits of clothing."

And this..

" Pica was first used as a term for a perverted craving for substances unfit to be used as food by Ambrose Paré (1509-1590). Pica is the medieval Latin name for the bird called the magpie, who, it is claimed, has a penchant for eating almost anything. ... Furthermore the French form of pica is pie."

About 7 years before I was born in France...

My mom would joke about the games they played as kids with her cousins and it was not about eating dirt and rocks. To this day it makes me laugh about the games kids played associated with their culture.

P.S. They would be glad it wasn't Alec Baldwin operating the Guillotine prop.

I recall as a young teen in France and some small farmer neighbour kids brought me to the rabbit hutches and I was petting a black bunny. I think black. The father came out of the kitchen and asked me if I liked rabbits? I said of course and he took the rabbit and broke it's neck.

Apparently I had misunderstood.. Worst thing was I had to wait while he skinned it and gave Sooty's steaming warm corpse to me to bring back to the house. He did tie a bit of string to it which I could hold instead of touching it. Oh and he removed the head, said it was ready for the Super U (supermarket chain). The dog ate the head.

The French love shocking children with the hard and brutal truth of life :)
