My T1 is through Sprint, and it's pretty expensive at $1k per month. Depending on location, I think you can get T1's for as cheap as a couple of hundred per month these days. Also, FWIW, I have only six level II displays and eight charts open at a time on my default Laser screen.

Regarding bandwidth, a full T-1 line has 1.5 Mbps of bandwidth, smaller than the 3.0+ that many cable ISP's provide. However, as I understand it, with a T-1 line, your bandwidth is dedicated (i.e. allocated to you and only you). On the other hand, a with a cable ISP, you are sharing your bandwidth with all of your neighbors, and even though you might get 3.0+ Mbps during most times, that bandwidth can drop considerably, for example, when a neighbor is downloading a large file, etc.

Note that I am far from an ISP expert, and maybe someone else can confirm or clarify this. I'm not sure whether this is a legitamate advantage of a T1 line or not, but seems like that is what I recall.

Pretty much the worst I have ever seen it today. Using this software today was the same as gambling. Simply pathetic.

If you have 20 programmers why the f**k can't you fix this? People should be fired over this.

You're pretty bang on.

A T1 is generally a dedicated connection between your ISP and yourself, while cable operates usually on a shared "node" basis, where a certain amount of bandwidth is allocated for an area.

Generally those nodes are "burstable" often with high speed for the 1st 10 seconds or so, which then tends to throttle back. T1's usually aren't burstable, usually data transfer is pretty steady.

In either case, you're subject to normal internet issues, if your upstream provider is experiencing issues, whether or not you have a T1 or cable, you'll still have some slowdowns...
 
red ink what was the problem with laser today?has anyone called guys like serge or other higher ups with genesis and demanded an answer if they're working in fixing this?
 
The only way I could trade today........

See price in chart window...price usually accurate..
See price in Level 2...different than what I see in the chart
window...chart window usually correct....Level 2 usually incorrect...

When wanting to place a trade....have to seek new quote server...in order to put in limit price.....

When level 2 refeshed....have to use quotes from chart window....but the trade will accept....

Unfortunately...prices usually move away ...by the time the process is finished...

And it is very uncomfortable...knowing whether or not the level 2 is the price....or the chart has the right price....usually the chart is right ...and the level 2 is wrong....

However last Friday in the AM....perfect...

What changed ????
 
many cable modems downloading at 12-15 mbps and i believe verizon has dsl at 30 mbps. if you have some fear about cable sharing of bandwidth try dsl which i believe has none. personally i have dsl and ca ble running at over 10 mbps and have never had any problems for 1/5th the price of a t-1. eric how did your genesis quotes work tody? even though you're not using laser frontend the quote issue should still effect you

Boy, am I glad I'm no longer on Laser. Lightspeed worked fine today.
