Largest brokers by volume in equities traded on NASDAQ

I'm not sure what value you get from this. Back in the 70' and 80', NASDAQ was controlled by equity OTC market makers and trading was done with a phone call. Today, NASDAQ volume is electronic. It does not matter who does the volume, your order ends up on the same book, if you can direct your order there.
Hi Robert, thank you for your reply. In dealing with several Brokerages, I have heard several claims such "we execute 18% of US consolidated volume in equities". I would just like to verify some of these claims and am interested to see actual volumes of these Brokerages. I know the NASDAQ has a Monthly MP Share Volume Report (http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/trader.aspx?id=mpvolume) which shows you exactly what volumes the brokerages are trading on NASDAQ. My question is if someone has access to such statistics and is willing to share them with me. I am interested to see if some of these stories from certain Brokerages is indeed correct. Hope this clarifies.

Not sure what this means.

For example, if all of Old Man Morse's clients decided to trade NYSE equities instead of Nasdaq equities, that does not mean that LightSpeed trading is not good for Nasdaq equities. The broker is as good as it's executions, not the exchange that most of it's clients choose to trade upon? Am I off on this here?

Edit. Ug, Robert, this was total coincidence that we posted at the same time! You were the first example I could come up with lol
Hi Overnight, you are correct with what you say. Let me clarify why I would like this information. Okay, outside of the fact that you stated you were shopping for a broker based on volume and wish to ignore the fact that IT DOESN'T MATTER, there is also the fact that the numbers you see WILL BE MEANINGLESS.

Take a limited example:
a broker claims "We execute 59% of all U.S. volume..."
who had the other side of that volume?? was it a single, separate firm?? Then you'd have TWO BROKERS each claiming to have executed THE SAME VOLUME --
AND THEY'D BOTH BE RIGHT.
Then there's the fact that maybe all their volume was to/from them --
there'd be one firm with 59%, and all of the others jostling around with 10%-25% all adding up to WHO KNOWS maybe 200% of recorded volume.

Clue phone ringing. Please pick up.

Exactly Tommcginnis, this is why I would like to see the independent Volume statistics prepared by NASDAQ. They report the exact volumes of all brokerages on their platform. Does anyone have these statistics available?

Brokers don't have volume. The exchange does.

Are you asking which brokers are most conducive to facilitating a trade on the NASDAQ exchange? You still have me lost. And I think you may be lost as well, because your questions do not compute.
Hi Overnight, I am not lost. Let me explain - in dealing with several Brokerages, I have heard several claims such "we execute 18% of US consolidated volume in equities". I would just like to verify some of these claims and am interested to see actual volumes of these Brokerages. Brokers are very aware of their volumes, and monitor the league-tables closely. But OP needs to specify more about his flows if he wants useful advice.
Hi Truetype, if someone has access to the league tables and is willing to share them, I'd be very interested to see them. Thank you

Ahh, I see what you are looking for, and why. I'll wager that in 2 months, you will no longer be posting here, because you will have moved on to some other dipshit theory that has no bearing on anything that has to do with actual trading.

I know the NASDAQ has a Monthly MP Share Volume Report... My question is if someone has access to such statistics and is willing to share them with me.

Why don't you call the NASDAQ and ask THEM? Jeez, it ain't rocket science dude.

The reports are very extensive and you have to pay for them. I was just wondering if someone who has access is willing to share the Top 5 names...
