large index futures contracts

Hi guys,

what are the largest index futures you know ? Especially in the US and Europe ? The Eurex FDAX is pretty large, do you know of other contracts with high nominal and/or high tick value ?

I know there is the large Dow Jones Future with 25$ per tick, but there is no volume in that contract... any other ideas ?

SP is the S&P 500 big futures. SP is 250X the SPX cash index. ES is only 50X. You will need a floor broker to trade SP.

You need more than a floor broker to trade SP, you need an appointment.
Friday volume for September SP was 1,556 contracts.
 
They are mostly crosses. The options traded here are either traded with another customer negotiated off floor or with a MM in the crowd. Stick with ES or SPX unless you are trading blocks.

2) You'll always get worse price fills in the pit considering that the locals are always bidding and offering 1 or 2 ticks away from the eMini qoute. :(
 
@OTCkrak: yes it is mostly about the commissions. The FDAX/ FESX is a good example. An FESX roundturn is 0.40 EUR cheaper than an FDAX RT (because of lower exchange fees), but I have to trade about 7 FESX to have the same firepower like 1 FDAX.
So lets say for 1 FDAX you pay 2.00 EUR per RT, then for the 7 FESX RTs you pay 11.20 EUR ! If you trade high volume per day, it really makes a difference, and you look for ways to reduce these costs.

I think it is funny that big institutional traders do not demand larger, more cost effective contracts.
