Yet... this Yahoo story does not cite the dates of the study, who were the scientists, or what particular lab it was performed in. The only known coronavirus family study with results by the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center was a study of an another coronavirus that was performed over a decade ago and has nothing to do with COVID-19.
This entire story (with DHS slides) looks like a deliberate leak of a DHS briefing at the Whitehouse whose intent was simply to try to back up Trump's talking points by grasping at hopeful straws.
“The department is dedicated to the fight against COVID-19, and the health and safety of the American people is its top priority. As policy, the department does not comment on allegedly leaked documents,” the DHS said in a statement. “It would be irresponsible to speculate, draw conclusions, or to inadvertently try to influence the public based upon a document that has not yet been peer-reviewed or subjected to the rigorous scientific validation approach.”
Scientists have come out and provided clear results for studies regarding how long COVID-19 can live on particular surfaces but have no reliable studies on its exposure to sunlight and/or humidity at this time. Any purported results are pure conjecture. The article notes "While the DHS describes the results as preliminary, they may eventually make their way into specific recommendations."
Will sunlight reduce the life of the COVID-19 virus on a surface; it is likely. Will it reduce the number of hours it lives to the point where it is reduced to being nearly harmless & living for seconds; very unlikely.
Are outdoor environments lower risk for transmission - for COVID-19 as with all similar diseases they are. Will the advent of summer with more sunlight reduce COVID-19 infections similar to the seasonal flu - very unlikely when looking at the current situation across the globe. Even if more sunlight shows some improvement in reducing infections - the infection rate in "hot" sunny countries is still high enough for COVID-19 to be transmitted quickly across the population and infect many people.
The actual situation being seen world-wide underlines that the concept of sunlight & humidity destroying the COVID-19 virus to the point the infection rate is reduced greatly does not hold true. The virus is spreading like mad in countries that are hot and/or humid -- and offer plenty of sunlight. How are things going in Iran?

Looks like they did it right. Isolated those actually at risk, put prudent preventive practices in place and most importantly didn't make hysterical knee jerk decisions. Certainly easier to do in a much smaller country but we didn't even try a rational approach. Straight to panic mode and now the consequences are worse and will prove to be more devastating than this glorified flu bug was ever going to be.
