KOSPI 200 Futures - Traders

Quote from uptickk:

I just opened an IB account and am trying to setup the charting in ninjatrader. I am getting the following error when trying to setup the Kospi chart.

Error on loading chart data for "K200 04-11 Kse': Interactive Brokers" Error in requesting historical data from IB: No security definition has ben found for the request(200)

Any clues?

It should not be 4-11, it should be 6-11. There is no contract expiry for April. It expires in June.

Thanks Roark. Now that you say that I remember reading it in the thread earlier.

Hi guys,

I am working at one of the brokerage houses in Korea.

Post any questions here and I will try my best to answer.

BTW KOSPI Future is a great product but comparing to KOSPI Options, Futures is a joke. Well it's my personal opinion though.

cheers

Why do you say that futures are a joke comparing to options?

Options volume us much bigger, but only for certain strikes, but tick value is a lot smaller.

Let's compare yesterday's volume.

KOSPI200 Futures Volume : 313,405
Total Option Volume : 19,987,259.

Volume of most strike: I can't get the correct number but it is much higher than Futures Volume.

As I mentioned earlier, it is my personal opition.

Futures requires huge amount of money deposit but Options they don't. There is an account called "Buy Only Options Account" which requires the deposit of actual value of options (282.5 put yesterday's closed price was 6.35 then it only requires KRW 635000 to buy it. no other hidden charges. However if you do shortsell first, deposit goes multiple times though).
Due to the differnce of deposit money, most of retail customers trade options and I believe this is one of the reasons why KOSPI200 options volume has been ranked number 1 since 2002.

Check out my attachment.
Red Circle shows the volume of each strike and this pic was taken after 20 min market open.

Futures contract volume at that time was 57,443 only.

What is your advice to someone that knows nothing about options (strike, put etc)
Is it easy to setup and trade it of the charts like any other market?

That the spreads will gradually destroy you, like anywhere else.

Charts work just as well as anywhere else, and, that’s not a positive statement.

Market Makers love Korea.
