Did Byrd decades in the Senate while being a member of the KKK? Then how is it relevant? According to your logic, is Trump a Democratic President because he used to be a Democrat in the past?

If Byrd being in the Senate as a Democrat years after he renounced KKK makes him a representative of KKK's connection to the Democrats then why doesn't Trump being a Democrat in the past reflect his current stint as a Republican?
There is a lengthy list of Democratic politicians and Senators who have memberships in the KKK. Some still in the modern era.

He renounced the KKK in 1940, how is that the modern era given modern era is considered from 1946 onwards? On the other hand, Storm Thurmond switched from Dem to Repub after CRA and remained a racist until his death.
