I think nobody wanted to be USA president in year 2008 because all the USA presidential candidates knew they would be jumping into a raging fire (USA) if they get elected as USA president. So they pushed Obama in front. Just my thought.

An anthropologist (university professor), at the begining of each semster with each group of new students, she made it a point to ask them "Why do you want to have children?"

The consensus was to pass on their genes.

Reading some of her work, the economic aspect of this equation boils down to "We'll get by somehow" "Things have a way of working out."

Imo, people who have children that they are unable to provide for (looking forward, crunching the numbers) they still see children as an asset not a liability.

Multiple children with different fathers, the logic = multiple resources.

Conventional view of a monogomous relationship, one mother, one father as the economic resource, all the bets are on red. Only one breadwinner, one father of the family to provide everything for the family.

This concept works out well for a father with earning power and healthy job prospects.

A woman who has a child with a man who has poor job skills and earning potential knows she cannot rely on only him to provide for her. Hence multiple children with different fathers, this increases her chances of providing for her family.

This is a generational concept, somewhere in the 60's (?) welfare regulations, kicked the "man/father" out of the house. No benes, if an able bodied adult male was living in the home.

Well, it doesn't literally have to be on your death bed.

I am sure Genghis Khan got great pleasure in seeing Kublai and his other sons ride off and destroy cities and bring back booty in his later years when Genghis wasn't fit to ride to the edges of his empire and kick more ass.

Likewise, you can be a 70 year old man and watch your sons and daughters make something of themselves... get married, buy their first home, have children (your grandchildren carrying part of you forward), etc. Or, you can be a 70 year old man in a nursing home, alone, or maybe with a wife, or maybe fit enough to go out and play golf a couple of times a week. To me, being a 70 year old man and rolling around a carpet (creaky knees and all) with my grandchildren (and knowing they will survive me and go on to do great things) is much better than looking back on all the golf games I played in my life.

I want my mom and dad to live as many years as possible... they should consume every last penny they have accumulated... and once they go through that, I am happy to spend what resources I can to make them comfortable... I owe them -- they made me what I am... and, I love them.
