"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get (us) stuck in Iraq."
So what is the problem here? It's truthful either with the "us" or without it.
With the "us" it's a well-deserved and truthful jab at President Bush, without the "us" it is merely a statement of fact. It has been true, in general, since the advent of our all-volunteer army that those with a college education were less likely to serve in the military, and if they did serve, were less likely to be killed. This always seemed wrong to me, but nevertheless, it is the truth.
The endless dwelling on this inconsequential statement by John Kerry serves only one purpose, viz., to distract attention from the important issues that should be on voters minds.
