Keeping it Simple

What a pity for you, then, that neither lower prices nor any other 'benefits' actually materialised.

They did, my childhood was a happy as any could be. I was born in 1976...

Dan's stock has always been blue chip. With or without Sowell.
But I would stay long Vlad too. Healthy competitors. Strong fundamentals with both.

One cannot resolve a disagreement that is essentially based upon theory vs. history. History always has more unknowns come into play than are ever anticipated in theory. Both of these guys are right. And both can have their premises torn apart with too many examples. Neither case can be confirmed or dismissed without valid arguments.

gee, hope i'm not 'overbought' :)

Sowell's one bad ass... a close as you can get to 'right on the money' bad ass... unfortunately his 'bad-assness' drowns out his excellent message to exactly the people that need to hear it

What would constitute a 'valid' argument rs7? Surely it would be one that has evidence to back up its claim. Don't the results that history is screaming at us count for anything?

B/c it never failed :D It was a confluence of historic events, poor execution, and exogeneous influences from outside the country.
The system never failed. One case of it's implementation might have...

This guy is delusional. It's hard to believe.

Absolutely! History proved (for lack of a better word) that socialism was a failure in the Soviet Union. Now obviously the Soviet Union's failure had many contributing factors having nothing to do with the premise of their economic system as it existed in theory. And a look at what has become of our Social Security system here in the US shows that corruption and inefficiency are endemic to these systems in a non communist environment too. But while this is all historically "validated", there are successful social programs that do work as well.

In their appropriate time, the "socialist" cooperatives in Israel worked beautifully. Socialized medicine in the UK seems to work. Certainly better than what we have going for us here in the US.

My first wife lost her life, at an extremely young age, because of the "free enterprise" medical system we have here. A business decision was made by a non medical business "guy with a cigar" that her condition did not "medically warrant" the treatment that the doctors of that very same "free enterprise" HMO recommended. So tell me how good capitalism worked for her. And for me.

Sorry for this truth...I always thought I could keep it to myself, at least concerning this forum. But sometimes you just have to say "what the fuck!" Capitalism has it's casualties too. And so there can be, in my mind at least, no absolutes regarding these issues. You have to actually live through some things to understand the realities of them. All the books, all the theories, all the brilliant thinkers and philosophers and politicians will never make it right with me. Or my son who had to watch his mom die when he was 10. Because it was the profitable thing to happen.

Peace,

We saved your butts from Hitler and althogh the west did chip in in the effort.
LOL.LOL.LOL.

Your people were actually quite happy to see Germans taking over Ukraine. Second, Ukraninians proved themselves well as prison guards in concentration camps.
If they didn't chip in, bolshevism would be no more. What would be next, who knows. It might have been better outcome after all.

About saving our butt. I would have preffered to learn German instead Russian at school.( in a hindsight)
