Summary: Someone organized a GoFundMe campaign for Justice (!) Kavanaugh during the hearings and it quickly ballooned to $600k or so. He turned it down, despite the fact that there was no legal obligation to do so.
Judicial ethics rules prohibit use of a judge's position to raise funds, but they do not apply to Supreme Court justices. So he could have easily taken the money. Maybe he could have bought a lake house, you know, like man of the people Bernie Sanders did.
Part of the intent of the fund raising was that Kavanaugh and his family were going to need extra security after the leftwing craziness. I fear this is still a concern and he may have acted rashly in turning it down, since he is not wealthy. This is how people of character act however.
