I used to be a registered republican, too. If you think they are fiscally responsible you’re kidding yourself. Republicans are all about deficits, guns and racism to get elected. No matter what they say, everything they do falls into one of those three and they never do anything for the good of the country.

A lie incorporates intent to deceive and Kavanaugh did this, under oath. He could be given some lee-way however he again and again gave answers intended for the public gallery, not for the senators.
He really avoided the shit out of the simple question about whether he had blackouts when he was a teen to the point of being rude and having to apologise later for it.

I think there is considerable gulf between two college guys disagreeing about how to characterize their drinking 30 years ago and Kavanaugh is a proven liar, based on one goofy university professor. This is even more ridiculous than Ford's drama.
No one is denying he drank a lot. That prep school crowd in DC back then pretty much all did. Their role models were the Kennedys, LBJ and Tom Dodd.
I read the newspaper article about this professor. He clearly is dying to horn in on Kavanaughs' fame. After all, he had a beer with him back at Yale once. I never read anything that was materially different from what Kavanaugh said. Plus, he made no claims of Kavanaugh blacking out that I saw.
"Prof Ludington, who teaches at North Carolina State University, said he had seen Judge Kavanaugh slurring his words and staggering after excessive alcohol consumption while at Yale.
The professor also said Judge Kavanaugh "was often belligerent and aggressive" when drunk.
"I can unequivocally say that in denying the possibility that he ever blacked out from drinking, and in downplaying the degree and frequency of his drinking, Brett has not told the truth."
He noted that it was not Judge Kavanaugh's drinking habits in college that worried him - it was the fact that he made questionable statements under oath.
"If he lied about his past actions on national television, and more especially while speaking under oath in front of the United States Senate, I believe those lies should have consequences," Prof Ludington said.
The professor plans to speak to the FBI on Monday, according to the New York Times."
