TreeFrogTrader is also wrong on a lot of the details making the whole exercise pointless even if you do care. For example, Saskatchewan is historically perhaps the most "left leaning" province in Canada, the origin of the NDP party and Canada's universal health care. Scheer was born in Ottawa and has even more question marks behind him then Trudeau now.

Most Canadians don't care all that much either about who wins this election; the "Liberal" and "Conservative" party are extremely similar in nature ( and where they reside on the political spectrum ), and neither party leader is all that popular right now. Things are going fairly well in Canada in recent years; Americans have far more reason to care about their next election then we do ours because frankly your country has yet to deal with numerous building crisis in a satisfactory manner.

Y'all gotta love this little crabwalk that Rear-Ender is doing.

Canada is coming dangerously close to electing a trump-supporting conservative who is an American and tossing Tinkerbell out. I dont know that that will happen but it looks close enough to watch people like Rear-Ender sweat so there is lots of entertainment value there.

I live in a real world not the fantasies that exist in your head. The Conservative and Liberal parties in Canada have had almost interchangeable policies and reside in almost the exact same spot in the political spectrum as each other for decades. It's basically party 1a and 1b most years, and Canadians switch back and forth when they find something distasteful about one or the other. I can't help you if this reality goes way over your head.

It would appear so. Perhaps it doesn't get covered down here, but do you guys even have debates or anything? Why is it the entire world is watching the U.S. and we're over a year out? Not one peep about Canada. You could probably go to a village in Africa and ask who is running against Trump and get the right answer. I don't think that would work if you asked about Trudeau and Canada. Why is that?

Its like the the Brits... how the f did Boris Johnson just take over? How does that even work? Wouldn't that be like an impeachment? There was controversy, but in the end it was no big deal. It just kind of happened.

Seems like the automotive industry at least would have their hands in the mix up there with regards to directing the outcome of your election. Aerospace too. And yet not one word about anything on the MSM down here. Hmph. Whatever.

Well the other reason why he states that "most canadians don't care that much about who wins this election" is that that is his perspective as a faux canadian. No doubt he and his people do not care.

There are some pretty stringent limits on campaign spending in most other countries and they're not allowed to shield themselves behind freedom of expression as we do in America. Basically, running a two year election campaign would be unthinkable and bankrupt a party in 3 months. I don't know if that's the gist in Canada, but do remember it being the case in some European countries, wherein all candidates get the same budget.

You have to keep the basics in mind too in trying to understand the differences.

Canada and the UK are parliamentary systems where it is really the parties and the MP's that are up for re-election and not the individual. Trudeau, for example, may run as the face of the party but he is not being elected directly. They and the Brits, for example, have to cobble together the votes from their party and others to elect a Prime Minister. So a Prime Minister can be replaced not only by his party and its allied parties failing to get or form a majority but also because they simply want someone else as PM if they do get a majority.

Some of what I am saying goes to the points vanzant was making where he asks- my paraphrasing here- how the hell can some of these countries such as Britain roll Prime Ministers in and out without even hearing about an election? It's because the majority holding power has not changed but the majority party justs wants to replace the Prime Minister. Such as just replacing Theres May with Boris. That was just a Tory to Tory switcheroo. We don't have that system is the short answer.

Which system is better sort of runs in cycles in my mind. There are many advantages to the parliamentary system, unfortunately, this never ending nightmare in Britain of late with the endless, endless, endless parliamentary gymnastics that go nowhere does not leave me pining for their system right now even though our own problems are massive. Though, I do prefer their debate system where they still just go into the pit and hash things out. Lots of entertainment value there too.

The other basic point not to be forgotten is that the U.S. is a world power and Canada has the GDP of California. Rear-Ender, for example, tries to make the point that elections dont matter much there or draw much attention because somehow they are more civilized and focused on other things or something. Ahh no. It's because it's Canada which is the equivalent of one of our states and there is not much world impact there. That's why people like Freddy Foreskin follow the development of every pimple on Trump's arse. There is not much going on in the Moose Empire.

This clowns days are numbered. Even if he squeaks by in the elections, his gig is up and the Canadians are expecting him to stop apologizing, stop wearing funny outfits, and get to work.
