Justice Dept. grants immunity to staffer who set up Clinton email server

It may not follow that hillary knew. But someone must have known that this network was not secure enough for what they were doing. She was the Secretary of state for the United States setting up a private network outside the state department network You don't set up private email servers by accident... choices get made by the owners. Otherwise she should have been SecState@gmail.com. Or HillaryClinton@hotmail.com. If I recall a bunch of govt officials were getting around the law by using gmail accounts.

I just saw this on another thread. It make it obvious.

Intentional malfeasance will never be demonstrated here. If this were NLHE I'd happily go all-in on the proposition that what we have here is another example of what I've seen in private sector IT many times: employees jeopardizing the organization's long-term security to achieve short-term ends, typically (but not always), "doing their job". I've seen passwords under keyboards, unauthorized personal laptops, using a camera to snap an image, goofy desktop skins installed on company laptops, evidence of surfing porn on company laptops, side databases including paper and spreadsheets left out, using USB flashdrives to install their favorite picture editor or "keep alive" apps, etc. All these things can be prevented, but someone is always one step ahead of IT. Besides, many complain, and sometimes they're right, they can't get any IT resources because IT is "always" working on higher priority projects.

Yes, the stakes with national security are high, and some will no doubt deserve to lose their jobs. But I'd bet no one is going to reveal bad faith violations.

I might say this is devasting analysis from a former AG. I am amazed MSNBC had him on. She even asked why he was smiling. No talking head trying to protect Hillary would ask that question. This was incredible. The information, the setting, the setup. They were asking the the questions I wanted to ask. It was the opposite of FOX and Rubio. Or Republicans running a congressional hearing. It was wonderful; clean questions and answers.

When the AG responds to a question by saying Hillary knew because she instructed her staffer to unpaper the documents when the secure fax was not working... That is all the criminal intent needed regarding this network and the charge of putting classified information in an unclassified setting.

The other slam dunk is the fact she destroyed govt information.

"There are a couple of them. There’s one that says you can't put classified information in an unclassified setting. That's the one that General Petraeus was convicted of on his own plea. There's one that says that you can't expose national secrets through gross negligence. Then there's one that says you can't destroy government information. And then there's one that says you can't obstruct justice. So there's four of them," Mukasey told MSNBC's Morning Joe.

On the Clinton aide getting immunity, Mukasey said, "Given what else There is, not likely… Understand, There 16, 17, 1800 classified e-mails on a non-classified server. Somebody put them on there. And they didn't all start out that way. The notion that somehow they weren't marked when they were put on the server is a half-truth and one that's peculiarly designed to irritate anybody who knows the other half."

what is the game being played by MSNBC here?

Is the establishment going to run a centrist candidate against trump.
Taken to the extreme... will Mitt Romney or someone like that run as a democrat after the establishment forces Hillary out?

I don't understand why this is taking so long. The facts are pretty cut and dried and should have been fully developed by now. More emails won't change anything.

It is intolerable to have this investigation dragging on, with the election calendar quickly closing. Perhaps there are negotiations going on to select a scapegoat. Maybe they could bring old Web Hubbel out of retirement and use him again. He knows how to keep his trap shut because he knows what happens to those who don't. See Foster, Vince.

If I was Trump I would hire a hit man to knock off this poor guy with immunity. That would keep the conspiracy going until November.

I'm not an expert, but to people familiar with clearance procedures, the idea of a government official operating a private server with thousands of classified messages with impunity must be outrageous. Like the chief of police operating a private dungeon and burial pit.

The chief of police does operate a private dungeon and burial pit. That is just standard operating procedures. Catching them is half the fun. And the other half is not letting them catch you.
