it was a win-win, for Goldman, NYSE, and ARCA too. ARCA was that other thing until the deal -- now it's the NYSE's electronic thang. It's already been pointed out that the seats were headed squarely to 1/2 mill or below (where I'd have bought some). And of course, Goldman gets the fees, equity (I'm sure), and the catbird seat in the equities market.
people foget that the NYSE has been adapting for hundreds of years (see Schumpeter's ideas on "creative destruction"). this is just another trip around the block of history.

don't know if you can put a price on a franchise like that.

They are so smart playing Both the nyse side and the arca side.Talking about having a conflict of interest. How they got away with this blows my mind I guess everyone made enough cash to let it pass.
