Just how reliable is backtesting?

Best bet is to get in and trade. Your losses are called tuition. If not able top turn a profit in 6 months, it's best to try your hand ta something else.

Absurd advice. Jump in without any clue of what to do and HOPE for the best. Incredible that someone could suggest something so ridiculous.

Only thing you need other than capital to start trading is Prudent Risk Management. Jumping in and trading whilst utilizing PRM is miles ahead of any amount of backtesting with regard to learning to trade successfully.

You will never do well telling other people what they never can and can't do...There are no absolutes in trading and this is why you come across the way you do.
Actually, there are absolutes in trading. This is one discipline that has no gray area.
